After living with Fibroids for over 15 years and receiving a hysteroscopy procedure a few years ago I knew it was time to do something to decrease my menstrual cycles heavy flow. Uterine artery embolization (UAE) is a procedure to treat fibroids without surgery. Uterine fibroids are noncancerous (benign) tumors that develop in the uterus (womb).

During the procedure, the blood supply to the fibroids is cut off. This typically causes the fibroids to shrink. It’s been over 6 months since the procedure. My cycles have been regular and extremely light. Fibroids can cause bloating, weight gain, cramps and more. Since the procedure, I’ve lost weight, my iron levels are good, and my energy has increased. The only thing my body is missing since the procedure was performed is testosterone. I’m not sure if this is a common side effect of UAE.
